When to visit Taghazout, month by month

Idder

Hazy evening light over a long, quiet beach, with lines of swell wrapping along low flat-topped cliffs and hills in the distance.

In Taghazout, "there's no bad time to visit" is close to true. Every month is still different, though. The waves change, the crowds come and go, prices shift and the weather has its own character through the year.

The short answer

Best for surf: October to April. Best for beginners and warm water: May to September. Fewest crowds: May and June, and September and October. Best value: June to August.

October

The main season starts. North Atlantic storms begin to send consistent swell. The lineups start to fill, but they're not at their busiest yet. The weather is warm and the water is around 21°C.

December and January

Peak surf season. The North Atlantic sends swell after swell, and more experienced surfers fill the lineups. You need a wetsuit, 3/2 mm at least. Book early.

February and March

The surf is still good and the crowds often thin a little. We think this is the sweet spot: consistent swell, lineups you can handle and the first warm days of spring.

Our honest recommendation

If you can choose freely, come in February, March or October. You get good surf, reasonable prices, manageable crowds and warm weather.

Every month works for someone, though. It depends what you're coming for.
